The ATRA Lifetime Achievement Award is presented to individuals who have dedicated their careers to serving the taxpayers of Arizona, be it in the private or public sector. This achievement highlights those outstanding leaders who have fostered sound tax and fiscal policy during their career. These stewards of the taxpayer have demonstrated a true commitment to good government and the prosperity of all Arizonans.
The ATRA Watchdog Award is as a way of honoring an Arizona elected officials for the often thankless work of opposing frivolous and wasteful spending of taxpayer money. This rare award is not presented on any timeline but rather when an elected official truly demonstrates their role as 'friend of the taxpayer'.
For several years, The Arizona Tax Research Association (ATRA) has taken the occasion of the annual luncheon meeting to recognize outstanding individuals whose work in the public sector is characterized by strong, consistent efforts to spend taxpayers' dollars wisely and promote governments that is efficient, open, and accountable. ATRA solicits nominations from local governments and state agencies, which are then reviewed by ATRA members and staff.
