PHOENIX (AP) - A public-awareness campaign has been launched to draw attention to Arizona's constitutional mandate to support education.

The Arizona Education Commitment is asking lawmakers to look for other revenue sources to shore up the state's budget and isn't pushing specific new taxes or tax increases.

The campaign points to a section of the Arizona Constitution that requires the Legislature to make special appropriations for the development and improvement of the state's educational institutions.

Two advocacy groups, the O'Connor House and Expect More Arizona, are behind the campaign.

Kevin McCarthy, president of the Arizona Tax Research Association, describes the campaign as bizarre and says it would be helpful if the group had recommendations beyond enhancing revenue.
